This is a problem that seems to be occurring quite frequently. I'm having a problem finding a solution to this issue.  It doesn't come as a result from this page, but another that I'm trying to access.

I have 2 computers at my disposal; both have winxp pro, and IE6. The error i'm getting on the sitehttp://www.octigon.com is this:

Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server error '80040e57' String or binary data would be truncated. /scripts/stats.asp, line 169

Is there a way to solve this on my end? and why can't one computer that I use see the page, where as the other one has no issue at all?

If you can offer assistance with this problem, I greatly appreciate it, but if not, no problem.

TIA,

Rex

This file is not part of the forum software so you have either posted in the wrong forum or you are using mod.

The error means that the data being placed into the database is to large for the field size. Increase the field size in the database.

That's right, Borg.  This is not an issue that I have had with this website.  As I stated in my first post to this forum thread, it's from another site all together.  However, someone else had posted here in another thread about mods that they were having this same problem, error number and all.

I don't have access to the DB that's giving me this error. My question comes from the fact that I have several computers sitting here, and my main PC is the only one that's having this problem. Is there a setting, a security measure, a checkbox, an update, anything at all in the settings of IE6 that would cause it to increase or decrease the size of this "response" to the SQL server's query?

I have checked to make sure I have no sort of spyware running in the Background that might be adding to my outgoing/ incoming data, as well as redid all my settings on my softwarefirewall so I could watch everything that was trying to get out/in.  IE, generic processes for winhost, and tmproxy are all that's going back and forth.

I'm lost on this, and relentless searches on google etc have produced nothing but the same suggestion: change the size of the field.

I'm totally lost as to what could be different between the 3 computers that I have set up.  They all have the same updates, OS/Browser versions.

thanks again,

If all sources give you the same suggestion, then why not follow that suggestion? It could be as little as having different minor versions of the browsers or operating system that is causing the problem locally, but the problem can be solved by:

1) Increasing the size of the database field
2) Truncating the information that goes into the field before doing the insert.

1) Because i don't have access to the Database.

2) How do i truncate the info?

I'm trying to go to a website by typing in it's url: http://www.octigon.com that's all i'm typing in.  What do i have to change on this end to shorten whatever IE is sending it?

Send your problem to wligon@octigon.com and maybe they will fix it. It's not a problem with your computer the problem is with their web site.
