an error on posts saying this comes up just before my signatures... and messes up the whole page:

var google_language="en"; var adHB=true; < = src="http://www.brinkster.com/adplace.js"> wDoL("top","AAKF730"); wCls("AAKF730"); wDoL("btm" ,"AAKF730"); showA("AAKF730");

Anyone know what this is and how to fix it? Cheers.

My guess is you are using a free ASP hosting company ... and the advertisement you see (Brinkster) is causing this.

See all the other posts on the breaking of RTE etc when using  a free host.

It says that the pages are actually designed for a free brinkster account.... and it even has an instructions for installing into free brinkster hostings... it seems like a codes wrong but not understanding ASP i have no clue what to do.

Maybe a little of clarification needs to be made.

The pages aren't "actually designed" for a Brinkster account, rather Bruce has "modified them" to make them work as best they can on a brinkster account.  THis has involved changing the way the database location is "found", removing the use of Application variables (since these are shared) as well as disabling the RTE and active users etc.

What Brinkster is doing is inserting Javascript code into your pages.  There is no way that I know of, whereby Bruce can foresee what Brinkster will do.... thus you first point of call is probably going to have to be Brinkster ... after all its them which is placing the code there.

So, with the above in mind, there is really very little that can be done.  The ASP code will be untouched by Brinkster ... so that isn't an issue.  What Brinkster are doing is mucking up the Javascript side of things.

You haven't read the Brinkster install instructions for 7.7 correctly!!!

http://www.webwiz.net/web_wiz_forums/docs_brinkster_in stall.asp

At the bottom you will find the following:-

Important Note For Free Hosting Accounts:-

Due to the way free web hosts setup sites some features of Web Wiz Forums can not be used and will need to be disabled from the admin area once Web Wiz Forums is setup including:-

  1. Make sure you have followed the instructions above and have disabled the 'blnUseApplicationVariables', found in the common.asp file otherwise your forum will NOT run!!!
  2. WYSIWYG (RTE) Post Editor - The adds that free web hosts inject into pages prevent this feature from running
  3. All email features - Free web hosts don't generally have email components installed and/or disabled with their free accounts
  4. Active Users List - Your site will be sharing server resources with other sites this prevents this feature from running correctly
  5. If you are using a free account from 1asphost, domaindlx, or Brinkster then the buttons for the post editor will not work as their add '100mb webspace etc.', is injected into a JavaScript file making the JavaScript within the file fail to run.
