Topic: Upgrade from Version 8 to 9 Posted: 12 November 2007 at 3:27pm |
I am currently running version 8, and I have tried to upgrade but failed. Is there a document which I can follow with how to upgrade. I have tried to search, but did not find anything,
Cheers
Jim

The instructions on how to upgrade come with the upgrade tools, in the READ ME FIRST.txt file

They should really be available online with the rest of the documentation, so they can be found easier. Will look into having them placed online soon.

I went to the Read Me First.txt, which told me,
Do NOT attempt to run Web Wiz Forums version 7 or 8 with a version 9 database or it WILL corrupt it
My question: Do I upgrade the database first, or upgrade (from v.7) the forum files first?

You should first remove all Web Wiz Forums files or disable your users from using, or viewing the forum this way the forums database will not be written to while the database is being upgraded.
Then upgrade the database while the forum is offline, using the database upgrade tools.
Then upload all the files and images for version 9

I've never used the forum lock, so I must ask, is locking the forum sufficient for this?

Should be OK between 8 and 9, if it was version 7 I would definitely say no, but 8 to 9 is not such a big update.
