I keep trying to upgrade to the latest version and I keep getting the same error...

Replace the database/database_settings.asp file with the one from the orginal Web Wiz Forums download and start the setup process again.
I have replaced the file numerous times and I'm still getting the same error. I also made sure all permissions were correct.

What am I doing wrong?  As always, I appreciate any feedback.

Thanks,
Eric

You will get this error is your database connection details are wrong.

Try using the database connection test button to check that the database connection details that you have entered are correct and that you can connect to the database.

Also you need to ensure you have read, write, and modify permissions on the database folder, even if you are using mySQL or SQL Server.

I have verified everything and all the appropriate permissions are set. I have upgraded my site with webwiz on several occasions and have never had this issue. I think I'm going to throw in the towel. I will wait until version 10 to do any further updates.

Make sure that your database connection details are correct. If you change the object owner from the default DBO you will quite often get problems like you see.

Go back and really check what should be the correct database connection details for your database including the object owner of the database schema.

Version 10 will install in exactly the same way, and 1,000's of people have upgraded or installed the forum since the new wizard was introduced so there is not a bug in with it. you just need to ensure you have the correct settings.

Hi Eric
I hope I have read your post correctly, as to me when you say, or quote:
"Replace the database/database_settings.asp file with the one from the orginal Web Wiz Forums download"

I'm just wondering have you understood that to mean replace the database_connection.asp file with your original one? Or a former database_settings.asp file??
The upgrade process should not fail, and as long as you have all your settings to hand, the procedure I would use is:

1. Backup your existing database
2. If it is NOT access that you are using, then delete the entire forum folders contents EXCEPT the uploads folder as this will contain any files that users may have uploaded previously to your forum
3. Download the latest forum software
4. Upload the forum folder with its contents (DO NOT OVERWRITE THE UPLOADS FOLDER)
5. Give read/write/modify permissions to the forum/database FOLDER
6. Type into your web browsers address bar the domain name and folder that you have uploaded the forum to. The Web Wiz Forums installation/upgrade wizard will start automatically in your browser
7. Select UPGRADE
8. Enter your details manually
9. Test your database connection
10. Good to go Thumbs Up
