You need an external service to work out the percentage uptime. Simply because nothing you install on the server can make an external request to see if everything is ok. However a service should be able to do it but I think it would cost you.

If I had some examples I might be able to persuade my host.

Your host probably would not subscribe to a service like this because it would cost them a lot of money and a lot of people wouldn't want it. You would probably have to subscribe individually.

Yeah but the problem is they aren't giving the full uptime provided in their service. However they have no way of checking. Surely that is against my rights.

Well its not against your rights unless they have stated somewhere on their site that they provide a full uptime service. What host are you using?

Again, use a 3rd Party monitoring service your host will NEVER give you a reliable figure.

Typically, an uptime guarentee says something about server availability, not service availability. The server may be up, and that's readily trackable by them, but IIS/any/all of its services may be down. Don't confuse server availability with the ability to run ASP.

I use http://www.ipmonitor.com/ to monitor servers and network. They're pricy. If you check out their features however, it'll give you a benchmark for evaluating cheaper/free monitors.

Can't you sort of note the dates when ASP(.Net) gets resetted or something? Is there no event that can be handled whenever the service shuts down? Something like the 'OnBeforeUnload' event in a HTML page (useless name..).

If not, try to have another server (or your home pc) analyse the server for a while, by simply requesting a page which uses most of the system resources.

EDIT: or get some geek to sit there 24/7 hitting F5 all the time..
