Im the US, merchants are not required to conform to prices posted with mistakes made by the publishing media although many do.
The courts apply a standard of "Reasonale Prudence" to many things. The issue would be... would a reasonably prudent person really expect to get a $1500 dollar article for $1?
I believe that in this instance, a court would conclude that you were trying to take advantage of an honest mistake and were trying to manipulate the customer service rep. Now, if the email from the customer service rep also quoted the price of $.99, that's a different matter.
