My PC operates on Windows 2000 Professional and it should automatically recognise a USB device (like JetFlash); however, it doesn't. The continuity of the cord that connects with the motherboard seems to be fine. What could else be the flaw? In the device manager, USB breaks in to (Intel(r) 82801AA USB Universal Host Controller) showing four drivers and (USB Root Hub) with just one in it's kitty. How shall I proceed from here on? I am not a trained person, but will be able to sort this problem out provided somebody lends me a helping hand!

If I were you before anything else, I would Google it first, search for:

(JetFlash)
(JetFlash + 2000)
(JetFlash + Drivers)
(JetFlash + Problems)
(2000 + USB)
(2000 + USB drivers)

Read all about it, chances are what you are facing has already been solved by many people.

Also, have a quick look at your motherboard or chipset maker website for updated USB drivers, but don't just update, read what the new version actually updates, maybe what it does new it's unrelated to your problem.

Other things that may help, is to try to connect another USB device to see if it's recognised, this eliminates the fact that your JetFlash or USB interface could be malfunctioning.

Also try your JetFlash on another Win2000 machine if you can, just to see if the same happens.

Maybe this device is not supported at all in Win2000, this scenario rarely happens, and there's usualy cloned/modded drivers that will make it work, check the documentation and Google to read all about it.

Thanks theSCIENTIST for your detailed suggestions. I have gone through most of the procedures you suggested, but the device refuses to start! Anyhow, I am awating  an answernow from the mainboard manufacturer. Hope that would end my USB agonies.

USB is indeed enabled in the bios. By the way, I have applied every possible trick around, but the device still keeps adamant as it was earlier!
