is it possible to upgrade the database to v8, but still keep my site running the latest of version 7?

my site has ALOT of mods on it and the rest of the site ties into WWF pritty heavily, and will be pritty useless with the basic V8

so id like to have a "temp" forum set up using the database to add all my mods and intergrate then when do, shift over the site.

my main concern is the new Permissions system.

though the V8 site will ONLY be used by me, and not used to make posts or wot not, just to add my tweeks

This wouldn't work as the new fields in the version 8 database would not be populated.

The best solution is to make a new v8 database from your version 7.x database, then use this second database for testing, once you are happy then upgrade your original version 7.x database.
