No one can get in to my forums using 9.03... It also reports the username and password entered are incorrect.

As I recall you changed the encoding for your forum. You will need to stup the same encoding as you had previously.

I had the same problem. I upgraded from v7 to the latest v9 using a copy of the database to test the upgrade, no issues.

I then proceeded to upgrade our production database, and all of a sudden nobody could login as well. The problem turned out to be the Replace functions in the functions_filter.asp file. All of the following two lines of code were "messing up" valid characters in the input string:

' strInputEntry = Replace(strInputEntry, Chr(173), "<", 1, -1, 1) 'Vietmanise < tag
' strInputEntry = Replace(strInputEntry, Chr(160), "<", 1, -1, 1)

I ended up commenting out any of them I could find on that page and it all worked fine. What's strange is that my first install went just fine. The one done after an hour on a copy of the same v7 database was not...

Is there a better solution than commenting out those lines?

Until all these matters are resolved version 9 at present only supports western character sets, you need to stay with version 8.= for the time being.

As a side-note, I am using a western character set (we're in the US). Also note that there were no apparent issues when upgrading an offline copy of our v7 database, we could login without problems. The problems started with the upgrade of our live database. We also tried to restore our v7 database, and the re-upgrade for the 3rd time, but here too there were problems. Again, the solution was to simply comment out the instances we found of those two lines of code.

The DB is a Microsoft SQL 2005, and the webserver is IIS6 on a Windows 2003 server. The 1st successful install, and the subsequent failing ones were all done on databases on the same SQL Server, and using the same WebWiz filder on the same website, by just modifying the database name in the database_connection.asp file. Really strange...

9.03 is the only version I've run in to the issue of not being able to log in. I unpacked the distribution file and copied it to 2 locations on the server. On one, I changed the database_connection.asp file to reflect the location of my v9 database (which was upgraded from v8), and the other I didn't change it so it used the "stock" database.

I told my server to give me read/write/delete/modify permission for the stock one (no need to do for the v9 database in my secure database folder, as the whole folder is already setup for this).

Tried using default username and password on the stock install, and it reports the invalid username or password error. Tried logging in on the other install using my upgraded database, and the same problem.

This worked fine with 9.02 and below.

I also tried taking a 9.02 install and replacing the files noted as changed for the 9.03 install, and as soon as I replace the global_variables.asp file, the forums crash reporting redefined variables.
