Using emoticons in quoted / edited posts

When editing posts, or quoting previous posts, the [/img] script is always replaced with { /> } and so, of course, the emoticon is replaced with the URL of the image as a line of text.

This happens every time, and it is driving me nuts!!!  So I would be most grateful if anyone can help...

Is this anything to do with Safari / Mac?
