    Posted: 10 October 2003 at 2:17pm

Hello all,

I've spent the past couple of days looking through the new release of Web Wiz Forums and loving it.  It's clear that it's been very well thought out and is looks good.  Congrats on a job well done.

The question I have is this:

I'm currently running Snitz on eight websites, the smallest with only 200 members and the largest with over 130,000 members.  To make it work, I've spent a lot of time making custom modifications and rewriting entire sections of code.  Looking at Web Wiz forums, there are features I would love to implement.  In regards to the RTE, I know there's a separate download for that, but there are still other things I would like to incorporate.

I've thought about importing into Web Wiz Forums from Snitz, but that's not really an option because of a) custom code written per specifications for the company b) time c) my manager would kill me if I even suggested such a thing.  It would be easier to import pieces of code.

So brings me to the dilemna...

If I were to just use the RTE code, then the copyright would read:

Powered by Web Wiz Ritch Text Editor - Copyright © 2001-2003 Web Wiz Guide
Powered by Snitz Forums - Copyright © 2000-2003 Snitz Communications

But if I wanted to incorporate code from the Web Wiz Forums...

a) Would that be permissible?  Would the look and branding be a major concern that it would be discouraged?
b) If it were okay, then would the following copyright be permissible?

Powered by Web Wiz Forums - Copyright © 2001-2003 Web Wiz Guide
Powered by Snitz Forums - Copyright © 2000-2003 Snitz Communications

Any feedback is appreciated, but this is directed to Bruce for the most part since it's his program.

Thanks in advance,
David Voss

Sure, here's the list of forums we're currently running.  All are modified versions of Snitz (all to varying degrees).

Trains.com / Members: 131,399 / Posts: 55,603

Astronomy.com / Members: 122,079 / Posts: 5,750

The forum was imported from a custom 3rd party solution and "relaunched" on Sep 19th, 2003 (last month). The decision was made to blow away all the old posts and start new. In the past 21 days it's averaged 215 new members/day and 271 posts/day.

Both sites use the same registration and forum.

There's another forum in use but it's restricted to invitation only. So I'm can't share the name/url here.  In the coming future there are possibly two more sites which will be adding registration and forums.

For all of these sites, my primary area of responsibility is the community, registration and authentication code.  As for the designs, colors, and advertising on the sites, I don't have much say in those things.
