The EU Cookie Directive becomes law in the UK on the 26th May 2012 when websites need to comply with the new laws or face fines of up to £500,000!
As of Web Wiz Forums 10.11 you can enable EU Cookie Directive Compliance within Web Wiz Forums from the 'Web Wiz Forums General Settings' page within the admin area.
When enabled Web Wiz Forums will only set session cookies unless the member logs in to the forum when cookies will be set as in previous versions to support features of Web Wiz Forums.
You should also update your Forums Rules from the 'Registration and Profile Settings' page in the admin area to include a clause to gain permission from your members to set cookies on their browser. An example can be found below:-
This forum uses cookies to identify logged in members as they move around or return to the forum. Cookies are also used to enhance the forum service, for example to remember forum options and display new posts since your last visit. |
If you are running a previous version of Web Wiz Forums and operate within the EU, it is recommend that you upgrade to Web Wiz Forums 10.11 before the 26th of May 2012 so that you comply with the EU Cookie Directive.
If you are running 3rd party Advert or Analytics on your forum you should also check with the provider that their systems comply with the new Cookie Laws.
