Topic: Weird application variable results!! Posted: 12 November 2005 at 9:22pm |
|
Hello all,
I just installed the forum, and it's just amazing how complete it is.
There's something weird with my application variables.
Here's a part of my global asa, i use it to show the number of visitors etc.. (PS: It is not an ASP question)
Sub Session_OnStart
application.lock
application("activevisitors") = application("activevisitors") + 1
application.unlock
..........................................
Sub Session_OnEnd
application.lock
application("activevisitors")=application("activevisitors") - 1
application.unlock
End Sub
And guess what after installing the forum i have values like there is 30 active visitors while there's only one.
Anyone can guess the reason of that??
Thank's again
Anthony.

I even change my variable names and i still have my active visitors number to "jump" to higher values
Any ideas?
Thank you.
Anthony

you must have a mis calculation somehwere
are you executing it right. also it maybe that there is an issue with the server and application veribles
try CLnting it all that may make a difference but not likly

Session_OnEnd is very imprecise.
AOL will initiate a session for every request to a page - e.g. a session for each image.
If you're on some of the free hosts, you're sharing your application pool with other sites.

Hello,
dpyers, what u said about AOL is interesting, however i was looking at my logs, there's no AOL logs at all.
I'm on shared hosting right now, am i sharing my application pool if so?

yes you are likely , who is the webhost?
some webhosts will move you/isolate you into your own application pool, some wont

dj air, i'm with hosteur.com which is a relatively good webhost for my student budget.
The weird thing is that i never noticed weird values until i installed
the forum so i thought it was because of the forum.
I will ask my webhost concerning my application pool.
Thanks a lot for all your help.
Best regards
Anthony

Let us know what happens. I'd be interested in how it all turns out.
