Topic: whats the difference in search types? Posted: 08 September 2006 at 2:27am |
|
Why do all three of the different search types retrieve the same results?
I tried the word "rack" and searched all forums.
Match all word: returned 110 Match any words: returned 110 Match phrase: returned 110
Shouldn't they each have different results?
Thanks Russ

No as you only entered one word.
The search types are if you enter multiple words eg.
Search for "Web Wiz Forums"
Match all words would look for posts with all the words anywhere within the post Match any words would look for posts that contain all or just one of the words entered Match phrase, would look for the actual phrase entered

If you want to search just one word, then just type in that one word, the type of search, match all words, etc. won't make any difference. when searching for only one word.

yes, but the work rack brings up results like.
Bracket, wrack, track etc.
I would like to see only results for the single word "rack" to show up.
Any ideas?
Thanks Russ

Select 'phrase' for that search type.

Using 'phrase' and the word 'rack' still brings up, bracket, wrack, track.
I want to see only hits for the complete word 'rack' in the results.
Any more ideas?
Thanks Russ

Sorry none at the moment as this is a limitation in the way you can search using SQL, you could try placing spaces around words or using _ but you wouldn't find the word 'rack' if it where the first or last words in the post.
