Enom registered all of my .com domains that had an available .info extension. Looks like they're registered in my name.

If I develop a site using the "free" .info domain I'm concerned about getting wacked on the renewal.

Apparently I have 45 days to activate the domain for free or it expires.

many many registrars are offering .info for ~$1.5

OnlineNIC.com force you to register more than 30 domains .info first to have such a price.

DirectI.com offers it for any domain...

'I think' that there is a competition between registrars in the .info region, i don't know why, but offering a domain for $1.5 is wierd.

as shown .info is the second largest evolving TLD after the .com these days.

Actually, you can get 25 free .info at dotster, but I think there's a fee for dns.

The reason the .info's seem to be growning is that around the end of September, Sipence (an enom affiliate) registered almost a million of them listing the corresponding .com owners as owners of the .info domains. The new .info's are marked as "Active" but unless some action is taken to activate them with your register, they expire in 45 days. Around mid-Novembers, the Active .info count will fall dramatically.

Apparently this move by enom caught most of their resellers by surprise. On Monday of this week (three weeks after the .info I wanted was registerd on my behalf), I called my registrar asking how to activate and they Denied All Knowledge.
On Tuesday, there was a new trouble ticket category at my registrar called "Activate .info domains". Put in a TT, and they put it under my control it in about 5 minutes so I could change DNS and make it live for a year.
Total cost to me was $0 - but we'll see what the renewal fees are.

Apparently there's some legal isues that have yet to be resolved. The first being that they used personal contact info in an unauthorized way to designate owners of the new .info domains.
The second is that in some instances they gave info domains to  the .com registrants although other people held a registered trademark on the 2nd level domain.

EDIT: Before any one jumps at the dotster offer... I always stayed away from them as their reputation is not the best - YMMV.
