Per Bill Gates: Windows 7, Successor To Vista, May Ship Next Year
I'm so glad that Vista is being replaced!

I quite like Vista especially now SP 1 is released, it now boots and runs much faster, and the biggest issue with Vista the slow file transfer has also been fixed.
The only issue I find now with Vista is that it doesn't seem to run well as a Virtual Machine, but thats no biggy as tend to use Server OS's for dev work more as Virtual Machines rather than Vista.

I did not want to be like one of the people who decided to stick to Windows 98 thinking that XP was bad... so I gave Vista a try on more than a few occasions... but I still had major problems with it such as getting the blue screen of death.
In a lot of cases the problems were related to drivers not working well on Vista... anyways I'm so glad that it is being replaced with a new OS... I'm sure history will remember Vista the way we remember Windows Me... don't get me wrong... i know the problems in Windows Me are different than the ones in Vista but both versions will hold bad reputation.

I've had Vista and it's server version based on the same kernel, Win2k8 running on over 20 different machines and never once seen the 'blue screen of death'.
I've also not found any driver issues, infact installing Vista and Win2k8 is simpler as it has better built in support for things like RAID so no messing around installing RAID drivers from a floppy while installing the OS.
The OS install itself is also much easier and faster than XP as you don't need to baby sit the installation with it pausing all the time to ask stupid questions.
The only thing I would say about Vista is it is hardward intensive and I would not run it on anything less than a Dual-Core machine with 2Gig of RAM.
If you need to install 3rd party drivers on Vista make sure that they are Vista drivers and not try and install XP drivers on it.

I must say after taking time to settle into Vista, I now prefer it to Windows XP. It looks sleeker, and providing you install up to date drivers, software updates on other programs, it seems to work okay The one nice thing I seem to have found as well, is adding or removing programs, doesn't seem to bother Vista as much as it does with XP, which inevitably ended up slowing down the system to the point where you were forced to reformat just to get back up to speed On the subject of Windows 7 I think Billy boy and his lot have made loads and loads of dosh from new OS releases, and I won't be hurrying in to add to his already extensive fortune. But nothing is ever written in stone

It's not the consumer market were the money is anyway, it's the Business Market with software like Win2k8 server and SQL Server were the big money is for Microsoft, for example the Enterprise edition of SQL Server costs £19,000 (yes I didn't miss-type the zero's).
For example Web Wiz pay over £2,600 ($5,200) per year and rising in Microsoft Licensing fees, and that's small fry compared to allot of companies.

I moved to Ubuntu after playing with it for a while (found out about it on here actually), i havent looked back, and dont miss XP, havent tried Vista but i have more eye candy Its probably not for every, and Computer Savy people would most likely find it harder to convert that a beginner, but im happy with it, works the way i want.
