I have recently aquired a Windows Server. Being my first server I am a bit of a novice at how server OS's work so I have a few simple questions: -

  • Is it possible to view logs of when users login either directly or over remote desktop?
  • Are there any good security programs or security analysis programs?
  • Finally... can anyone recommend a backup program to backup a computer to the server.
Thanks in advance. I will also welcome any other server related recommendations or information.

1. Absolutely. Simply go to your Local Computer Policies and enable Security (Audit) Logging.
2. Have not found a really good one but you can try the standard MS ones...
3. ArcServe is pretty decend, but they all cost quite a bit...

3) Standard NTbackup has always worked great for me!
