Topic: Windows Vista - How soon would you upgrade? Posted: 16 September 2006 at 5:51pm |
I've downloaded Windows Vista RC1 (64-bit edition) from Microsoft last night, and installed it on my 64-bit Turion laptop.
So far, I don't see a good reason for companies to upgrade. It's true that Vista has a lot of cool stuff on it... the design is pleasant and feels different... but that's not enough to get rid of XP and install Vista instead... especially with a business that has more than 500 work stations.
Does anyone agree? I guess the question is, how soon would you upgrade considering that you have Windows XP right now?

Ummm... I have an MSDN universal subscription, so I get to upgrade any time I want. For free. I'll wait for the final release though... That is unless I get a new box first. Then I'll install Vista on it.

I've been using Viosta in dual boot with XP for a little while and to be honest with you apart from it being better looking and some nice additions to ease of use, i wouldn't swap it out right now. I'd prob wait to it came time to re-install XP then switch over to Vista.

Thee's some interesting workflow/.net 3.0 stuff in Vista that I'll eventually get into on the server side, but as a client machine, I just don't see the need.

I'll be upgrading from XP (x64) to Vista (x64 Ultimate) as soon as it is released in the UK and has support for all my drivers

I guess it's the same on my thouyghts, it's all about driver support, and software that works with Visata, i currently run XP versions on Vista but feel that kinda defeats the point

I just built a new PC last week and I decided to load Vista on it. It runs very stable. I has a couple advantages over xp I think, not as may as I'd like though. For now I'll be running it and see how it goes...

I am running Vista (and office 2007) on my everyday machine in a "production" environment, I think this is the only way to really test something..
I think it is great.. personally I think its time for a change.
