Topic: WWG Forum Light version? Posted: 13 February 2003 at 8:30pm |
Hi Borg,
I'm a big fan of your work, and I'm anxiously awaiting the new version as I know many others are with me.
I've previously used v.6 on a site and it seems to me that while functionality and functions on WWG Forums keep improving, it also gets increasingly difficult for average surfers to use the forums. They simply don't get it - especially the ones 40+.
So I guess I'm suggesting a 'light' version of the forums, sort of a mix of a common tagwall and the functionality of the WWG Forums, where some of the more advanced features are left out. I know I'd use it on a couple of sites.
My two cents anyway.
Keep on trucking

I'm not sure it's such a good idea... The current release is very advanced YET very simple and ease 2 manage so i don't think it'll be worth the work...
What features did you think of? (to exclude)

Great idea...
the problem I see with it is that borg is stretched to the limit as it is with 1 version...then after releasing the final v7 I think I heard he was going to dedicate time to the other scripts. Plus, there's always newer releases to come. So do we want borg writing 2 simultaneous forum scripts and having to update both?
That's a lot of work from 1 man. What features do you consider extra? Perhaps someone here can help you get rid of the code for your own forum.

Or you could just use an older version of the Forum. These are available if you make a donation and ask for the Web Wiz Forums Boxed Version. The older versions of the Forum and simpler and easier to use.

In version 7 many of the advanced features like, Private Messaging, Active Users list, showing mods on main page, email notification, WYSIWYG Editor, etc. can all be turned off in the admin area.

Actually this would probably solve a lot of my (user's) problems.
(Dammit - even more anxious to see the final version now.)
