Did they hire a kid to make it?  It looks boring and ugly.  Really boring and ugly.  No way neat what a section of a corporate website should look like.

The need new designers.

Agreed.

And according to the Neowin news about AIM beta it manages to crash just by minimising the window.

If you ask me they just put up a beta site to show people they are still making stuff.

Most of the stuff on there is alpha

Looks like they are shooting for validation and accessibility over bells and whistles. There is a price for each.
 
edit: it doesn't validate but really really close on the XHTML and except for the iframe, it almost validates CSS.
