ASP is limiting in that only windows servers support it to a decent level.
php is a good language. but really. if you are learning a new langauge from scratch then jump into c# and .net or java.

c# has a more generic synatx compared to vb.net and learnign it will make learning other languages like java and c++ easier in the future for you.

VB.net has the same downfall as classic ASP. in that only windows supports it to a decent level.

whereas c# is well supported on windows, linux and BSD and more in development.

java is also cross platform.

lastly and I must say one of the greatest advantages to learning c# / java / vb.net over any other language is that they are used for both web and non web based applications.

I.e. learnign c# will allow you to develop awsome web applications. and the exact same langauge will allow you to create applications to install on ya PC. in fact the .net languages offer you all the abilites that c++ does (i know this is arguable, but for all practical purposes they do offer the same abilites)

this might not seem like much at the moment but a large slice of the web wont be accessed via browsers in the future. instead you'll find GUI apps accessing webservices and running from ya PC will be popular. especially if micorsoft get their way as their desire to see this has been well publicised over the past while.

will php / asp offer you the ability to do this? nope. c#, vb.net and java?  yuppers.

and thats only referring to the internet..  theres a big wide world out there of stand alone apps that these languages excell at also.
