AFAIK in the UK, you can go to your solicitor (lawyer) and get the code stamped by him and the "original" kept in thier office. That way if it ever goes to court, the solicitor will have proof of when it was stamped. I am not sure what they charge but I have heard it is not a lot, in the overall scheme of things.

"10 Myths About Copyright" is usefull, and not strictly confined to the US. http://www.templetons.com/brad/copymyths.html

By the same author ia a "Brief Intro to Copyright" - http://www.templetons.com/brad/copyright.html

The Internet Archives has proved useful in some court cases - http://www.archive.org/

And there's always the proverbial horses mouth - http://www.copyright.gov/circs/circ1.html

To be honest, I really find this whole thing quite stupid - I don't mean our discussion here - I mean the fact that you actually have to go out and do things like this to protect yourself against some lame-@$$ who is too lazy to do the work itself (no human dignity assigned by ommission of "him/her").

I didn't know the registered mail thing doesn't hold up anymore in the US.

I hope Bruce archives the DB/forum or passes it on if he does another major upgrade like he did with 6~7, because there is a lot of really good information above, and in other posts as well of course. [ hint hint  ]
