I use both, actually.  So I can realistically compare them side by side.  As a web developer, its good to test out your pages in multiple browsers anyway.  They don't all render your page the same way.

On some computers I have IE, and others I have FireFox (IE is still there, I just rarely use it on machines where I have FireFox installed).  The extensions in FireFox are wonderful and part of the reason why I use FireFox on some of my machines.  IE works great too and most of my visitors use IE, so I also browse my website in IE too.

As far as the person who said they are loyal to Microsoft.  Well, I'm about as loyal to Microsoft as they are to me.  I use their products that are good and affordable, and I use alternate products when they are good and affordable.  I try to get the best value for my money, and get the best solution for the task at hand.  Sometimes Microsoft wins, sometimes it doesn't.  I'm not one of those who picks a camp and is blinded by the propaganda.  Microsoft does make some good stuff... they also have made some real crap... and sometimes it just isn't what I need and someone else makes something better.

I'm impressed with FireFox about as much as I am impressed with IE.  Both have some strong points, but neither are really superior in my mind.  Both have benefits and drawbacks.  Maybe that's why I use both, so I can take advantage of the benefits of both. :)

For me, working from an office computer on a network that I can't really have much control over/insight into (i.e. no idea how clean it is) FF seems to work the best.

Without extensions, I think it is faster.  Of course, part of the speed boost is how it renders tables.  IE waits for the whole table to load before displaying it.  FF starts to display it instantly, guessing what it should look like on the fly.  This is why FF often appears "jumpy" when it loads some pages.  At first it annoyed me, but now I got used to it.

Sometimes, seems like Firefix proxy settings are stuck. No matter how many times you change them, as soon as you restart firefox they will revert back. Crap!!

I almost forgot about Netscape.  The last time I tried that (when they came out with their comeback release) it was so bloated that I uninstalled it because it was so slow.

That could be why it was so slow, but then again, OpenOffice.org 2.x needs Java VM and OpenOffice.org isn't that slow.

I think they just tried to fit way to much stuff into Netscape.

Its like one of my PCs.  The hard drive crashed on it.  So I had install a new hard drive and reinstall everything including the OS and all the programs.  Instead of using a restore disk, I installed everything from scratch and the computer was 10 times faster without all the bundled stuff that the OEM puts on there.  Its all those unnecessary extra features running in the background that kills your speed.
