Hi

I want to use the forum app on a company intranet where people have already securely logged in in order to be on the intranet and there is no access from outside the building.

Consequently I not only don't want the CATCHPA, I also don't want people to have to log in again. Can I completely unsecure the forums?

The rest of the intranet is built in Dreamweaver so I am using DW's login behaviour and Restrict Access to Page function with various different levels of access. Ideally I would like to take this forward into the forum so that you only have access to it if your login privileges are at one of the higher levels already set up.

I haven't used WebWiz Forums before, so please assume almost total ignorance of how the app works!

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Tim

You used Dreamweaver to code a security system for your site!! Thats like locking your door and leaving the key in the lock.

You would be much better using the web wiz forums login system as it is much more secure.

If you want to not have the CAPTCHA code to fill in have a look at version 8 RC1.1 as users only need to enter the CAPTCHA code after the 3 rd un-successful login.

Hi

Thanks for the reply

I understand your point but this is an intranet only accessible from a closed network. It doesn't need to be www secure.

Yes, I could use the webwiz login for the entire system but this would mean changing around 100 other pages and making them work properly again - which I don't want to do for obvious reasons.

It would be far, far easier to modify the webwiz login process.

Surely I can't be the only person who doesn't want to use the prescribed login?

This maybe difficult in version 7 with many pages needing to be changed.

However, in version 8 the login is handled by a function in one file called 'functions_login.asp'

However, because the web wiz forums uses a relational database any users need to be in the tblAuthors table in the database inorder for the forum to work, so you may still need to log users into the forum, unless you can create a whole new system that can interact with your present login system.

The way I integrated WWF into one of my web site was by altering the WWF cookie to refere to the cookie that was already written by my web site. This works for version 7 and 8.
