Don't know where you would get version 6.25 from as it has not been around for 2 to 3 years.

6.25 doesn't have any of the mentioned features but 7.9 does.

Also 7.9 offers much higher security and better performance than 6.25

Thank you for your reply.

The company I work for uses 6.25 on our intranet.I asked them to enable the mentioned features and they told me these are not available in 6.25 and they don't have time and resources to upgrade... looks like they were right, but how long would it take to upgrade from 6.25 to 7.9?

Thanks

upgrading can depend on what dataase version you are using.

if Access then you can use the migration tool.

if SQL you will have to search the forum on how to do so.

Can you give me a rough estimate of how long it will take to upgrade using a/ Access and b/ SQL? Is it a matter of minutes, hour or days? Of interest is especially the admins time (how long does he have to actively work during the upgrade?).

I just want to put a cost against it and see what the cost/benefit ratio would be. As I said, I'm much in favour of upgrading but my company says it's too costly.

Many thanks

With the Access migration tool all you need to do is run the tool on the old and new databases to move the posts etc. across, this will take 5 to 15 minutes depending on database size and computer knowledge.

Then all you need to do is replace the old 6.25 files with the new ones.

With SQL Server it would take longer as you would need to alter the database to the 7.9 version by hand. How long this takes depends on your knowledeg of databases, it could take 30 minutes, or it could take you days.
