We use Webwiz 5.0 forums for our current website.  I've taken the forum login and extended it to be "site-wide", since certain features on our site other than the forum require an account (like registering your application with us).  For the past three years, it's worked fine.

My company wants me to split our current website between two servers.  One here, the other in Europe.  However, they still want to maintain the site wide login.  We maintain all the dynamic pages and services (like the forum and ID registration), while they maintain the static pages.

Here's what I'm afraid of.

A forum user who didn't select "Auto-Login" leaves our forum and server to go to browse these static pages.  After an hour or two, they've come back to the forums, only to find that their account has timed out.  Technically, they've left our site and then came back, though they don't know it.  As far as they're concerned, they never left our site.  Now I'm flooded with bug reports.

Is this a llegitimate fear?

The web developer in Europe says there's no problem at all.  I just need to increase the timeout.  However, that seems like a kludge, and not a solution.  And kludges usually get me in the end.

Any help would be appreciated.

The other solution if you don't want to extend the session timeout time, is to make it so that all users do not have the auto-logout feature.
