It's been a while since I upgraded Web Wiz Forum so I couldn't remember the process. Dredging through the support forums isn't all that convenient either. So it would be great to have some upgrade instructions included with the installation documentation.

As I undertstand it you just overwrite your existing files and folders. But then, you don't want to overwrite your uploads folder do you? And what about common.asp? Is it recommended that you replace this file and then re-edit it, or simply don't replace? Stuff like that, thanks.

Why should an update overwrite your upload folder?

You might want to tell us what version you are using right now before we start guessing how to help. Also there exist plenty of topics about how to upgrade from older versions.

An update will overwrite your upload folder if you upload everything and tell it to overwrite everything.

I don't need any help now, thanks, I was able to work it out, it just would have taken much less time if I could have read a simple upgrade readme to remind me of the process. I run many different software packages on different platforms and the upgrade process is always a little different for each.

There may well be "plenty of topics" on how to upgrade but as I said dredging through forums is not very convenient either, especially with no "sort by relevance" option. If there's plenty of topics it shouldn't be too difficult to throw together some text for the installation docs.

To throw together some text would be difficult since it depends very much on what version you are upgrading from. Some upgrades require a database change, some do not. But minor updates can be usually done by simply replacing the files, except for the DB, of course.

It all depends on the version you are using.

if you are running V7.01 or later you just need to overwrite the .asp files.

if you are running V7.x you dont need to overwrite the uploads folder.

please view the version history file that comes with the application, as that holds a list of all files edited within versions.

there is also an online version history on the link below

If I have 7.9 (with a link removal license in force) and a bunch of files in the upload directory, I want to upgrade to version 7.9.2. Is there a document (or set of instructions) on how to upgrade specifically from 7.9 to 7.9.2? We are using the forum quite a bit (interanlly) and do not want to have a lapse of coverage if possible. Do I simple overwrite from the zip file?

 I need help on this.

within the forum (from forum root folder those paths)

Having read about the possible security issues with V7.91, I downloaded and overwrite the functions_filters and post_message ASP files as recommended. However, my installation is still showing as V7.91 on the Admin Menu. Can I assume this is just because the relevant file for the version number doesn't get updated when these two files are overwritten and that I am, in fact, now on V7.92?!

Great software Wink
