Topic: Lost admin password. Posted: 24 November 2005 at 1:26pm |
|
I know this may seem stupid but I have lost my admin password. It
was stored in my Palm Treo and I use so many passwords that when I
broke the Treo I lost all my passwords.
I tried recovering the password through wwForum.mdb but it looks as
though the password is encrypted. Is there any way I can reset it
without damaging the database?
Any help is appreciated!
Thanks,
Mike

please do a search next time as this has been cobvered over and over again,
you need ot downlad a new database and copy the salt and password values from the new database to the old database record 1.
then your password will be set back to letmein

another way, if you have your own server, you can register a new user, and open the database, set the user as an admin. you can delete your old admin account, or use the new admin account to generate a new password for it.

I actually did do a search and couldn't find anything on it.
Maybe I was just too impatient. Thanks for the response!
I'll give that a shot.

I did a quick serach for 'Lost Password' on this forum and after less
than 30 secounds of looking I found your anwser in the third post I
looked in:-
http://forums.webwiz.net/forum_posts.asp?TID=5811&KW=lost+password&PN=0&TPN=2
There are other methods and I'm sure I would have found these as well if I had spent a few more minutes looking.

Couldn't you just use the "Lost Password" facility to email you a reset password? Or doesn't that work for the admin account?

I've never had to test it, but can't you also just click the "Forgot your password?" link and have the forum send you a new password? Doesn't that also work for the admin?

p.s. I'm not affiliated with Web Wiz Guide in any way. I'm just an average Web Wiz user repaying my debt for the use of their fine forum by trying to help other Web Wiz Guide users.
