Topic: Newly Registered User's IP Address? Posted: 25 April 2006 at 3:57am |
|
I recall Borg mentioning that newly registered users will have their IP address recorded in version 8 of WWFs. Now, there is a user that keeps registering with offensive usernames and I am unable to track who he is or at least get his IP so I can ban him. Is there an option that allow me as an admin to do so...?

IP addresses are not recorded when a user registers.
However, there are other methods that can be used, such as email activation used with email address and email domain banning. You can also setup the forum so the admin has to activate new accounts.

The forum is currently setup so that admin is needed to activate new accounts. The thing is, he uses fake email addresses, and his one aim is to have his offensive username show up in the forum statstics, that's all. He does not post or anything. I do not wish to disable the forum stat feature but I still don't want his name to appear in the forum stats beause it offends a lot of other members.

If you look in your sites own log files you should find the users IP address in there.
You have the time he registered an account, so all you need to do is look in your sites log file for the IP address of the person who used the file register.asp at that same time.

Hi Borg, I am having the same trouble. New users register with no details at all, don't know who are they, no name, no email address, no location, no IP adress etc,. I block them and they come back again with a different user name. My forum admin page hasn't got this option that new users have to activate the account from the administrator. What shall I do? Please help.
Thanks.

If you are using version 8 then there will be an option under the email notification setup page to have the forum admin activate new member registrations.

If it's currently set for Admin to activate accounts, can't you just not active them / delete them?
If the usernames are showing up in the stats, even when they haven't been activated, maybe some coding needs to be put into place so the stats only show activated members.
