I read that the other day. Im finding myself formatting some extra drives to get ready to go back to WinXP.

Ive been using Vista since its been out. While i like the new design (something different than XP after so many years), ive found Vista to perform horrorably with games. Microsoft has been saying how secure and how great it will be with games, but every game i play gets way worse FPS (frames per second) with Vista than XP. And its way less secure than WinXP from what i have seen.

I may go back to Vista if they get all the bugs worked out and can make it perform better than WinXP (i doubt it). The only thing i might use Vista for is DX10 games once i purchase a new video card that supports it.

Apparently some OEM's, like Dell, are being allowed to include XP "downgrade" disks with their sales of new Vista PC's. Last week, MS announced they were extending the OEM's licenses for selling new PC's with XP for another 5 months - until Jume 30, 2008.

Lead me not into temptation... I know the short cut, follow me.

I actually developed two different views of Visa. For home purposes it works not as good, like MadDog says FPS are lower than XP and Media stuff is not as well working as it should be.

On the productivity side, Office, Search etc it is superior IMHO to XP, I really like developing on it and everything works just fine except the occasional crash.

I actually quite like Vista and have no problems using it.

But then I only use Vista for Workstation machines, and am looking forward to Windows 2008 server coming out as it should work very well with Vista.

To be honest with you there is very little money in consumer software, as consumers don't like to pay for software, and if I were Microsoft I would be concentrating on the Business market, where the money is, and Windows server 2008 which does look very good, especially IIS 7.

Reading the link to the link to the NewsBlog posted above, the whole article is someone just twittering on a load of rubbish with no foundation in it at all. As if Microsoft are going to give up on Vista, when they have already shipped over 60 million units.

Most home users would not upgrade to Vista simple because they don't know how, and Microsoft missed the lucrative Christmas market by releasing Vista after Christmas. Business users almost never upgrade immediately and wait till after SP1 is released.

Vista SP1 is due for release next February, but unlike XP SP2 which was really more than a Service Pack, it will just be a Service Pack with no new features, so just wait for the blogs like the one above complaining about that!

However, I would imagine you would start seeing a bigger uptake of Vista over Christmas for home users and after SP1 for Business users.

As for myself, I have no issues with using Vista, and actually prefer it over XP when used in combination with Windows Small Business Server as it is less likely to drop network connections to the server, and the Vista Sync Center to snyc with SBS is much better than the crap in XP.

I have to agree with -boRg-, I beta tested Vista and got me free copy and now if i have to go back to using XP for work or traveling around, i hate it.

XP done a hell of a lot of hard work over the years but for me it's time it moved over and retired :p

Altho i do understand this isn't the same for everyone.

Ok I'm giving Vista one more try ... just because of the stories I heard about people sticking to Windows 98, thinking that XP was bad. I do not want to be one of those people...  I also got a free a copy of Vista Ultimate from one of my co workers; so let's see how it goes this time.. I'll do my best, I promise Tongue
