	Hi there, hoping you can help me out here. I currently run a site which has a WebWiz forum embedded into it, but I am having support issues with the people providing the server and although I have asked numerous times for the information i need to back the forum up I am getting nowehere fast. I will shortly be moving my site to another server and do not wish to lose my forum members or postings as it will be a total nightmare to have to start again. Im not very technically minded hence using a third party to do all the back end stuff, but the server people are just being a pain and i cant seem to get anywhere with regards to what I need. would appreciate it if any of you can give me a clue as to how i go about backing up my forum so i can export it to my new site. Surley the server host does not own my WebWiz forum, as this is provided free by WebWiz thanks very much Sime

	Sime - sorry to hear that your server is not being very helpful - hopefully you might move to the hosting solutions right here as Web Wiz are pretty darn good However, backing up your forum need not be a nightmare and had your current provider bothered to take their time, they could have explained it to you Every hosting company works differently, but basically you should be able to login and then navigate to your database. I am assuming it is SQL or MySQL, in which case there should be an option to download a backup of the database itself. What type of system are you using?

	its SQL m8, but logging in is a problem as the hosts arent divulging the password. its one of the reasons i want to move my forum :) Edited by Sime - 01 May 2009 at 7:54pm

	By rights you should be allowed your password Sime - if you have your forum on your local machine, you should have your database name and password anyway. I assume you have FTP access? Listen I'm off for the nite but we may be able to resolve this for you so don't panic too much. No wonder you want to give up on that hosting company

	Not every web host gives you an option to backup online your mySQL or SQL Server database like we do here at web wiz. Many do not. Sime you need to contact your web host and ask them to supply you a backup of the database or an SQL dump. If they can not supply you with this then you need to ask them how you can get a backup of your database. Unfortunately if they refuse then unless you have very deep pockets to go down the legal route there isn't much that you can do.

	btw it is the FREE edition we are using...does this make a difference?? i have just been told that the server host mentioned that the forum was being kept in 2 different places...whatever that is supposed to indicate, I have no idea!! if we setup a new forum and import the members list over, how do we import the messages as I can't quite see an option to do that ;) thanks for your help :) Edited by Sime - 03 May 2009 at 8:18pm

	It does not matter if you use the free or paid addition. If you are using SQL Server then the login details for your database will be stored in the database/database_connection.asp file. You can use these details to backup your database.
