I aint very good at JS, ive made an HTTP chat for two people, and was wondering if anyone can think of anyway to have a message showing when the other person is typing...

So itd say something like, "xxx is typing..."

Ive seen it done but cant figure it out!

You would have to use ActiveX or something like that, HTTP by itself cannot recognize keystrokes. The chat windows where I saw that like a Cisco version for example that Verisign uses, it installs an ActiveX Component

Ah poo!  Cant Javascript detect a keypress?  I tihnk I could do it but I cant find anything anywhere on js keydowns

Aha solved it :)

Javascript with 2 vars:
 old,new
Every second grabs the value of textbox and sees if its changed from the last second

If value has changed, refresh invisible frame

Invisible frame updates database telling that that user in that session is typing, and the current date/time

Each  user has a listening frame, which displays is typing if the person at the other end has their flag up

Main refreshing chat frame clears all flags more than 5 seconds old

Ok, that could work.
