HP photo smart 635 or photo smart 735 searching on the net reveals that they more r less r the same care with execption that 735 has extra zoom and resolution but more or less the comparies is draw between both and am confused..

For you to stay in the budget is hard to suggest one as HP cameras suck in my opinion, I never liked them. Go with some cheap Canon or Kodak instead.

I have a Nikon Coolpix 2100 and have taken over 3000 pictures with it in the last 8-9 months.
Although it looks a bit battered now from being dragged around lots of
festival's, carnival's, outings, parties, etc. and being well abused it
still takes excellent shots and I've not had any problems with it.
I think it cost me around £140 to buy.

I have to agree on that one but there are some cheep cameras out there that are not bad. You need to consider your budget and form there look at what you need it for. Good top end photos cost more. Look at getting a 3 to 5.5 Megapixel camera something like the trust 920 POWERC@M ZOOM

Yeah try ebay, sure to get some good yins in there!
(I have a fujifilm finepix a202, doubles up as a web cam and takes good pictures and even small movies. Would cost around £100 or less now, but I would recommend it!)
