Hi

Can anyone help as i am new to IIS and setting up web sites.

I have followed the instructions on this site for setting up the IIS and a website but i can not get the //localhost or //localhost/webname or the IP address/whatever to fire up with any web pages.

The vitrual directory for my web site was created by browsing to my d drive for the sites folders.

According to the instrctions that should have been it!

Are there any other permissions etc i need to change to get up and running?

All I want to do is to practice / learn how to build local websites using ASP and MS Access but with out IIS I'm stuffed!

Thanks in advance for any sugestions. ... polite ones!

Well, if you would have shared the output you actually did get it might help. In IIS itself, when you go to the Virusl Directory and right click any htm file you got in there you should see an option for Browse. that should navigate your IE to something like http://localhost/yourdir/file.htm and display it. If it does not, let us know what IE told ya.

IE opened a window and started to open the page but has only got half way through the load and so does not display the page and so no error it just sits there.

Any ideas?

Even if you just go to http://localhost and not loading a page going for default? You should be getting the Under Construction Page....

Did you try to use your computer name as opposed to localhost?

Your machine name when used as tour home url will look something like http://mymachinename/
You might also want to try http://127.0.0.1

First go into control panel anch check that the iis service is running. Start it if it isn't. If you can't start it there, re install.

Lead me not into temptation... I know the short cut, follow me.
