Topic: Restricting registrations Posted: 20 May 2003 at 10:24am |
I've had a good search through, and can't seem to find any other posts on this, so here goes .....
I know its possible to restrict all new registrations, but is it possible to receive notification when someone registers and then decide, for whatever reason, whether to allow that person "in" or not?
We have a support forum for students and I want to allow browsers to visit the forum but not actually register unless we know they are students.
Thanks in advance.

Sorry this board does not have that option available at the present time.

Basically I would like to choose who actually gets accepted as members of the forum - specifically students.
I had a script once which ran a forum, and instead of automatically registering new members the administrator selected which group, if any, the new member should be assigned to; unsuccessful applicants received an email saying "Sorry, unsuccessful" etc.
Hope this helps. If not email me direct.
Thanks

If you come up with a solution, I would be interested in implementing this too as I run a board for students as well. Occasionally, we get the odd student who wants to post rude or immature comments and it becomes a real hassle filtering those messages. Being able to assign members and activating them would be a real nice feature without having them automatically activated upon registering.

I've seen work on a new MOD for allowing new members to choose which group they are assigned to, I think this will alleviate the problems, only certain groups have access to certain forums etc.

You don't need a MOD to do that you can already do that with the forum.
Just create the starting group in the admin section as a non ladder group and then set permissions for that group to only have access to those forums you allow the genral public to post in, or give that group no access on any forum.
