Hi,

I'm in desperate need for your help. You'll understand why in a few moments.

I don't know exactly which version of the forum I have installed on my server; the archives are mostly from May, 2006. I guess it's 8 point something. I've been using webwizforum for a long, long time as you can see.

On Firefox, the statistics are:
936.840 messages in 4.275 threads in 32 forums
6.689 Members

And on IE:
434.199 messages in 3.563 threads in 30 forums
6.689 members

I don't know why the difference between browsers, but that's not the problem.

The problem is... the forum is slow. Very, very slow. And it's been presenting error messages all the time. And the messages differ all the time. Sometimes it's

Server Error in Forum Application

An error has occured while writing to the database.

Please contact the forum administrator.

Support Error Code:- err_SQLServer_getUserData()_update_last_visit

File Name:- functions_login.asp

Error details:-

Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server

Timeout expired

And sometimes it's:

Server Error in Forum Application

An error has occured while writing to the database.

Please contact the forum administrator.

Support Error Code:- err_SQLServer_save_new_post_data

File Name:- new_post.asp

Error details:-

Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server

Timeout expired

Or:

Server Error in Forum Application

An error has occured while writing to the database.

Please contact the forum administrator.

Support Error Code:- err_SQLServer_loginUser()_update_USR_Code

File Name:- functions_login.asp

Error details:-

Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server

Timeout expired

Anyway...

Sometimes, my users can't log in, sometimes they can't post new messages, sometimes they can't even READ the forum.

This has been going on for months and months now. And don't know what to do.

Usually, when I restarted the server, everything was fine for a while. But now that's not working anymore.

The forum is a very important part of my website (www.cinemaemcena.com.br) and, well, I'm lost. And I'll start losing users soon.

Help, please. With sugar on top.

Database timeout errors like these are very rare with the SQL Server version and usually points to server and/or network issues with either overloaded SQL Server or slow network connection issues. You should contact your host about these issues.

If you use SQL Server 2005 or 2008 you should certainly upgrade to the latest 9.54 release which would improve performance immensely for larger SQL Server forums.

Bruce, the thing is: years ago, after buying the "no-ads" version of wwf, I made the mistake of installing a mod. I don't remember its name anymore (Venk? Wenk?). Long after I'd done it, webwiz informed it was "banning" it from this forum. But it was too late, considering I had already installed it.

Now... I don't know how to "undone" it so I can upgrade to 9.54.

Is there anyway I could install 9.54 from scratch and then import my list of members and topics or something like that? If not, is there anyway someone could guide me on how to install this mod? Pretty please with sugar on top?

As long as you remove the new database fields that this mod created you will be able to upgrade to 9.54, as it did not comply with mod rules and place MOD infont of any database changes coursing issues with upgrades.

The only way to know would be to either search through the version 8 forums or have a look at the mod you used and see what fields it created.

Well, considering I'm really not tech-savvy, I guess... I'm screwed then. :(
