I am thinking of running mozilla firefox as a kiosk. However:

  • Right click can be disabled using javascript
  • Toolbars can be disabled using the browser.xul

However how can you disable keyboard shortcuts?
And more importantly is it possible to only exit firefox when you type in a password?

I think the source is available for it. Haven't looked but check http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/0.9. 1/contrib/ for a source version.

Doesn't IE have a Kiosk system for the full screen mode? Or don't you want to use IE?

I was thinking of using Linux as it is free so obviously IE is not an option. However even the IE kiosk system doesn't password protect itself.

Since you have a closed system, it's all up to you. Use whatever suits your purposes best. FireFox is a nice choice.
