I would like to get an opinion on OEM Software. I recently found out about http://www.decasoft.info. This company sells cheap software. I was amazed with the low prices. But I am concerned about the possibility of it being too true to be good. I know that the OEM software don't come in boxes and with manuals. I would not mind buying some software without manuals. I have never purchased OEM software before.  Has anyone purchased OEM software before? If so, can you please tell me about your experience?

Well, the only downside I see is that the shipping time is listed from 10-21 days as it comes from Europe. Other than that, it appears to be legitimate.

Lets face it. How many times have you actually used a Windows manual or put the box on your shelf for decoration? If I have a question about any software, then google is my first stop anyway or one of several message boards that I frequent.

Another point to consider is that I also build custom pc's for clients. All of my parts/software are ordered online and shipped in to me based on which of the vendors that I use has the best deal at the time. When it comes to software, I always purchase OEM versions when possible as long as it it cheaper than my local Wal-Mart or BestBuy.

But... OEM is NOT meant for sale to consumers. Makes me wonder about licensing and whether you would get support. For the prices though... who would care?

Don't buy from them!

The domain is
    Registered to someone in Moscow
    Billing address is in Paris
Company profile is from Pakistan (Link)

Also the domain is blacklisted for spamming on several sites:
http://www.joewein.de/sw/dbl-update/2004-09-22.htm

Company is called OEM Software LTD.  Did a search on the company name and came up with a few news items specifically directed at this company.

Might want to read this news item from the Register (great online news site BTW):
The Register News Link

Also might want to read this forum thread:

Hope I saved you guys a few bucks.

Gullanian,

Thank you very much for the information! I just felt like it was too good to be true. I was obviously spammed. I received an email with information on cheap software. I usually delete junk emails without reading them. This particular email got my attention. I definitely wouldn't want to buy illegal copies of software. It sounds like they may make illegal copies of software and put them on CDs and then sell them.

There are some companies in the US like http://www.softwareoutlet.com that sell software for lower prices. But the prices are not as low as the prices on the Decasoft's web site of course. I always like to try to find software at cheaper prices.  Fortunately, I never even tried to purchase anything from Decasoft. I just wanted to do some research because the low prices for the software sounded too good to be true.
