Users on my forums keep asking how I can "fix" the forums so that when they login to one machine, they don't get logged out of another. Some of them use multiple machines, and they want to stay logged in on both so they don't have to login every time they switch machines.

Has anyone done anything like this in a MOD? Is there any downside? Is there a reason the code auto-log's you out when you enter the forums on a second machine?

This type of login system was removed about 4 years ago due to security issues, and replaced with a much more secure system.

Each time you login a new 32 bit tracking code it produced, this makes any previous tracking methods invalid and increases security.

What kind of problems did it solve? What am I getting myself into, by possibly deactivating this?

The security it gives makes it 1000 times harder for a hacker to hack into the admin or any other account in the forum.

It also helps with security when using PC's in a public place, like a library or internet café, where stored cookies, URL's, and cached pages on the machine can be used to access the forum as a different user.

Deactivating this is NOT recommended and would leave your forum open to potential hackers.

I guess I need to look at the WWF cookie and see what's in it to see where the security hole is.
