Keeping in mind that although a forum may state "8,808 members", many of those will be those who have come and gone, joined to look around, then lost interest, those who got mad, took their toys and went home, spammers who signed up years ago and have not actually posted (yeah, I need to clean-up a bit and remove some members), but still for a forum like ours that relates 100% to an orphan car company that was absorbed and dismantled by Chrysler Corp decades ago, and whose last car ran off the assembly line in 1988 to have thousands of members - it's a big thing for us.
It also boggles my mind that Bruce has kept this forum software safe/secure, and relatively fast, too.
It just plain works.
The hosting is excellent, too. It's so rare to not be able to access our forum, I almost freak out if it does happen!
If you run a forum, and work with a SQL back end, this is where you need to host.
I've had my fill of "cheap" or free - and when I compare costs to what I get - benefits, the cheap isn't all that cheap. Some of the others also allow "anything and everything that's not blatantly illegal" on their servers, and I refuse to support such hosts.
I really really like this forum software and will be like a lost puppy if they ever stop development - like a man with no country or home, I shudder to think of having to step backwards to anything else. And I'm considering moving my own personal sites to this hosting as well - once I compare costs, which I suspect will be nearly a wash.
My son works for one of the largest media companies in the states - they constantly have "security issues" on their servers and sites. I was appalled. Last time I notified him of some bad ads and redirects on one of their sites, he passed the info up the chain of command and was told "yeah, we know, we fight this a lot" and I'm thinking to myself - stop fighting it a start PREVENTING it.
Anyway, fun stats - to see how many posts different sites like us have.
