They cooled a P4 to -196 using liquid nitrogen. They set a new world record @ 5255 Mhz. Wonder what benchmarks you could set using a Radeon 9800 XT and such a system...

who ever though that dumping liquid nitrogen would speed up your processor

Speed of a processor is variable on a number of things:

  • Resistance in wiring
  • How compact processor design is
  • Voltage running through processor

Higher the voltage, faster the processor (as far as I know, but I am starting to think im completely wrong).  So, higher voltage means a hot processor, the hot processor if its too hot will melt!  So pouring liquid nitrogen cools it down, enabling higher voltages.

Might need to consider moving to a bigger place though... my spare junk room is a bit clogged at the moment...
