I like UltraEdit myself and have written all the applications for this site in UltraEdit.

It has lots of useful features, but doesn't come with built in support for ASP syntax highliting, but if you look on the UltraEdit site there are some good add-ons for ASP syntax highlighting and a good ASP tag bar which is great for not having to keep typing ASP commands.

Both of these can be easily changed yourself by editing the text file for them so you can customise the syntax highliting and the tag list to suit your needs.

The global search and replace tool that can be used on mutiple files in a directory is great and can use regular expressions, it's also got a useful search and find feature along the same lines you just point it at the files in a directory.

It has so many useful features I can't possibly mention them all here, but check it out, you may find it really useful, I know I do.

This is where I get a bit confused about EditPlus and UltraEdit.

Most people I know use UltraEdit, but I just can't find any reason to use it as my primary editor. It mostly boils down to syntax highlighting... EditPlus has far superior syntax highlighting than UltraEdit. Even with add-ins or whatever.

When it comes to regular expressions, UltraEdit is much better, but in that case I either use another program that is again, much stronger with regular expressions than UltraEdit or I use a program I made myself to take care of them, which is again much stronger with regular expressions than UltraEdit.

Reg. exps. in EditPlus are VERY weak. I only use them in there for very basic things.

I rarely ever need to look at HEX views of files, so...

I'm wondering... what is it that everyone loves about UltraEdit? I just can't see it. Seriously... I want someone to let me know what it is that makes UltraEdit so strong.
