Hi again, having a rather disastarous start to asp etc.
Ok I downloaded the Guestbook and Forums. I checked the documentation and it said all I have to do is install IIS, which I have done twice now. Second time after a complete re-install of system from the ground up!
I still can't get any of it to work and have even tried the SQL version and installed MSSQL etc which is also available in XPpro, which I am using btw.
The way I have it figured a person should just have to install XP, install IIS, Install Frontpage (I have the premium version of 2000) manually transfer the relevant Documents and I can then access via my browser at the address of h t t p : // 'computer Name' or 'Localhost' or it's default dns 127.0.0.1 / 'name of Document requested' and it should put the document I have placed in the wwwroot folder. Instead I keep getting 400 error messages.
I can't publish as I am supposed to from Frontpage. In any format h t t p or ftp. In fact by default it is supposed to install an ftp root folder yet it doesn't[?]
So I have searched the 'Net', I have read the tutorials associated with the guest book and forum and I have searched over posts here but I can't find anywhere where anyone can just say This is how to install and configure IIS (and mssql, sql server)in straight forward simple terms i.e. open/this/do that/do this/type whatever is needed here/ok/close/job done. Then next bit/open this/ click this enable/set/ or what ever etc.......
It really does have to be as simple as that! I can't see any reason why it shouldn't be...It's just a case of setting the right parameters and as for micro-soft help files yes the info is there some where but I only have one life...(apoligies for flippancy)
So can anyone help me out here please, as it's driving me (and others from what I've read!) up the wall! To say the least (Expletives ommited).
Thanks in advance....
I'm running in XPpro btw with as I said Frontpage Premium on a p2 400mghz, 6163MB intel chipset,
