I recently upgraded to the 9.66 MySQL version.
Since then people have not been able to create new member accounts.
When they try, it creates the error

error '80020009'

on the page register.asp?FID=0, line 601, which is in the "Get the starting group ID" section of the page.

What causes this and what can I do about it?

Make sure you are running the latest version which is currently 9.67 and that you replace all the files especially in your case the register.asp file.

Also make sure you have a starting group defined in the Group Admin in the forumk Admin area.

A starting group was defined.
However, I set another starting group and then reset the starting group to the original and now it seems to work.
Go figure!

I would recommend updating from 9.66 to 9.67 as there are some session issues with 9.66 which were resolved in 9.67
