    Posted: 18 February 2009 at 11:34am
Hi, I am fairly new to administering my forum.
Everything was running 100% until this morning and now members cannot access "Private Messenger". This is the only area of the site that is affected. I have included a screenshot below if anyone can help. As I say, it only appears when trying to access PM's.
I have restarted the server, recycled the application pool in IIS, checked SQL etc and there are not server errors in the logs that I can see. I have also disabled and re-enabled the PM function from the admin tool. I can access the PM tables OK from SQL Server Studio. Has anyone seen this before please? Thanks, Stuart

OK, this doesn't look good as "Pre-approved / Pending Topics" is now also dead, with the same error message. Any ideas would be greatly received. Thanks.

You need to turn off friendly HTTP Error messages in IE so you get a detailed error message of what the actual problem is.

The following page from the documentation tells you how:-

Thanks for the reply. I had actually already turned off friendly error messages but it wasn't reporting any further detail back.
We have just narrowed down the issue and it turned out to be something to do with "custom error documents" in IIS. One of our guys had turned it on last week. Disabling it has resolved the problem. We just don't understand why this would cause a problem at the moment and also why it has only failed today we this was enabled a week ago Confused
