    Posted: 07 November 2003 at 11:41am

My forum has been up and running for about 2 months.  I've been posting messages and changing Forum Properties with no problem using the admin interface.  I have not made ANY changes to the .asp code whatsoever nor have I changed anything on the server.  I am running Access 2000 version on IIS 5

Here's the problem:

I can not access my admin screen.  I get this error message when I click on the ADMIN button:

Provider error '80004005'

Unspecified error

/forum/admin/common.asp, line 159

It all began when I created a new Forum and called it PRIVATE DISCUSSIONS via the admin interface.  I began adding permissions for a couple of members to access this new forum and when I tried to delete the permissions from just ONE of the members I got the error for the first time.  Now I can't access the admin page at all.

The forum still works fine... the connection to the database exists everywhere BUT IN THE ADMIN AREAS... even weirder - SOMETIMES... not all the time.. but sometimes I can get the admin page to come up if I edit the URL from this:

http://66.83.118.125/wwf/forum/admin/frame_set.asp

to this:

http://66.83.118.125/wwf/forum/admin

But even then I can't get any of the links that appear on that page to work either.  I swear NOTHING HAS BEEN CHANGED in the ASP or on the SERVER!

Any ideas?  I'd hate to have to re-install this whole thing.  I have tried to repair the database using Access 2000's COMPACT AND REPAIR UTILITY but that does not help.

I think it is either:

1) A corrupt database

2)try reuploading all the files

3) have you changed the database driver atall?

We cannot look at your site admin without knowing the administrators password

I just did an upgrade from 7 to 7.51a. Seems to work just fine, but when I log in as the admin, it allows me to log in, but won't let me in the admin console. I get this error:

Sorry, only members with sufficient permission can access this page.

I 've really dug in too far, and I have a full backup of the old system, so I could go back without any issues. Any thoughts?

Thx in advance!

Make sure you have replaced all the files in both teh admin and the main section.

If you have moved the database to a new location make sure you have changed the path in both common.asp files.

boRg,

I did a fresh install and copied over the old database, then modified the database name in common.asp. This brings back the content, and allows me to login, but if I try to goto the admin section, then I get that message.

Heres something strange, if I go into a forum, it shows me all the information, ip, ect, like I"m a forum admin. i can also click on profile and edit their profile, so it's like I"m in, but I"m not.

As I metioned in my last post to you there is TWO common.asp files one in the main forum and one in the admin section.

The path to the database needs to be changed in both.

Sorry, I meant that I changed it in BOTH common.asp files. Chill...

I fixed the problem by using the convert_db.asp file that I found in another forum posting. This was needed to convert my 7.01 to 7.5x. I did look at most of the postings before i did the conversion.

All is good now.
