What is the maximum size file that can be uploaded as an attachment under version 8 and will that maximum size be the same for version 9. ?I am using version 7 on an Intranet and need to be able to offer large file upload capability.

Thx

The web server itself IIS only allows file uploads of 2Mb max using HTTP, Web Wiz Forums supports this maximum amount.

The reason why Microsoft has done this is that uploading files via HTTP is not good as it places allot of strain on server resources slowing down all sites on the server while the upload takes place. Also files are likely to become corrupted uploading this way as HTTP was never designed for uploading files.

If you want to upload large files you should look at other alternatives like a pubic FTP account to allow your users to share files.

Thanks Borg.  That answers my question.  I do have FTP capabilities on my site, but I wanted to provide the contextual commenting functions of a forum with file uploading.  Is there a way to configure Web Wiz Forums to use FTP as its file upload mechanism?

It's not really possible to upload using FTP and ASP. Although it can be done it typically requires that changes are made on the server.
