First ive done a search for this, but not found any answers, so appols if ive missed it.

I have been using your forums now at www.mercilesscreations.net/forum for over 2 years with no problems.

But now Im moving host, so i requested a db backup, which i got, but it was as a .bak file.

I reinstalled your 7.9 at my new host, all went fine, np..

But when i go into the programme that the provider supplies for accesing the MSSQL, I can see the db he has created, and the files that 7.9 has uploaded to it. (nd, i cannot rename, or name the db the provider gives me)

So i can navigate to the CSV import wizard, then it goes to "Select the table into which you want to import data :"

So as I have one .bak, I dont have sep tables to install, and i cannot click multiple tables.

My intention is to be happy about transfering the old forum tothe new server, get it working, then upgrade to version 8.

Any help appreciated.

MM

What you would normally do when transferring an SQL Server database is to use Enterprise Manager of SQL Server Management Studio to transfer the database to the new server.

What your host have done is backedup the SQL Server database and just given you a back up file.

If you can't use Enterprise Manager of SQL Server Management Studio to transfer the database, the you will need to use Enterprise Manager of SQL Server Management Studio, login into your database and select 'Restore' the database from the backup file.

If you are having problems with this it maybe worth asking your new web host to do this restore for you.

Because it is in .bak, ive no idea how to place/insert it, ive tried with various combos, but every time it corrupts the forum

I've never seen the software you are using as you would nor normally use Micrsosft Enterprise manger or their new SQL Server Management Studio.

If your host are not being much help I would find a better host who can be help.

Also, try the support for the SQL Admin software you are using as to how to use .bak files with it, as I have never come across this software before.
