Hello:

I am really struggling to understand how user groups, group permissions, and member permissions all work.

I feel like I have a firm understanding of Security and User groups in Windows, and that understanding is how I am approaching this situation.

The structure in our organization would have a tiered approach.  Users, Supervisors, and Administration.  Supervisors should have access to what Users have access to, but they shouldn't have access to Administration.  Administration should have access to everything.  Users should only have access to their own stuff.

So, how can I get this to work right?  Or how can I adjust my thinking so that I can get something similar?

The first thing to do is forget how permissions work in windows as they have no or little similarity.

When setting up a forum you can set permissions for things like, posting, replying, editing posts, etc. in forums for either, everyone, registered users, or just the admin.

These generic forum permissions that you create can be overridden by setting permissions on that forum for individual groups, via the group permissions system.

At the top of them all is individual member permissions, these  can be set for individual members on forums and override all other  permissions on that forum.

So what permissions should I set on a forum if I want to only grant permissions to 5 individual members?  Private Group permissions?  The system forces you to set permissions on a forum.  Can I set up a group and then grant permission to just that group?
