thius is the only way to check it out.

Maybe I'm not understanding the term "silent edits" but with the option to display edits set to no, a moderator can edit a post without being detected.

Is that what we're talking about?

I've found out that hosts with SQL are a lot more expensive than MS Access. With MS Access, I can get a Windows host with 1GB, for three times more money, I only get 25MB with the SQL.. Is MS Access really that bad? The forum is NOT very big, and since it's the most popular version, it can't be that bad? What limitations will affect me? What's that "20 connections" stuff? Only 20 members can log on at the same time or something? I've found a good Windows host with MS Access, and wonder if I should avoid it.

MS SQL has come down in price alot over the past couple years.

MS Access is ok for a small not to big/active site.

20 c0nnections.

it doesn't mean you can have 20 people online it means you can have only 20 people connecting to the database at anyone time, and as queries take microseconds.

you can have more people than 20

but access is a flat file and therefore slows quickly when the size increases. also is likely to corrupt.

who is the host you have found that look ok to you.

I run an access forum with 110,000 posts and about 265 MB database file on brinker. It has not run into any major problems so far that are directly related to the database size/usage. The amount of active users go up to about 50 and the forum still runs fine.

You're right that SQL hosting is more expensive (especially for a large forum), so that's why I'm still in access.

i am suprised Brinkster have allowed it to get that big.

the main issue with access is that for ever 1 user that visits the forum each time they enter a page all 265 meg has to be put into ram , which slows the site down but also the webserver. so 2 people on the forum is using 530 meg of ram

that sort of size i would recommend making Compact and repairs daily and also backing up daily because it is more likly to corrupt at that size.
